What happens after the campaign ends? (Backer Kit Survey)

Processing: After the campaign ends, your payment method will be charged as Kickstarter process all pledges (2 weeks) and then initiates pay out to the creator. If your payment method is declined for any reason, you will be notified and instructed to update it to keep your pledge. If you don’t take action to update this asap, Kickstarter will drop/cancel your pledge and you will lose your items and place in the campaign.

BackerKit Survey: Shortly after the creator receives payout (2-3 weeks after project end) you will receive a unique email invite from the BackerKit pledge manager software, to complete your backer survey. This email invite is sent to the email linked to your Kickstarter profile. The BackerKit survey is where you will confirm your reward, final delivery address, and have the option to add additional items.

This step is essential to the production and fulfilment process, as manufacturing quantities and allocations are based on the information submitted through the pledge manager. Please ensure your details are correct and completed within the time-frame provided. If a survey is not completed within 14 days of being sent, your reward may be excluded from the main production run due to limited overrun quantities, and fulfilment cannot be guaranteed. I will always provide reminders and updates before this point is reached.

Survey Lock Down for Production: After completion of the survey, it will be locked down to confirm final production numbers and no further changes will be possible. However, your address will remain editable until production finishes and preparation for fulfillment begins (at which point you will be notified your address will be locked down and have one last chance to update it if necessary)

Notifications: I will announce all important info via a Kickstarter Project Updates. Such as when you can expect to receive your survey, and the survey deadline when they will need to be completed by before being locked down.

What is BackerKit / the pledge manager?

BackerKit is a trusted third-party pledge management software that is used instead of using Kickstarters own built in Survey tools to confirm backer info. BackerKit pulls all backer pledge data in and creates individual surveys for each backer to complete to primarily confirm their items and their address, which is critical to the projects progress.

It also allows you to purchase extra items should you wish, and pay for them separately and securely in your survey, before the creator locks them down, charges any payment methods, and has the final count of all items needed to produce.

Completing the survey is critical to the project to determine production numbers, and so it must be completed as soon as you receive it, within the timeframe given (14 days). The survey sending and completion dates will be announced to you via on a Kickstarter Update, so please be aware to look out for these and respond asap.

When will my reward be shipped?

The estimates date for shipping to backers is March 2027. I will keep you updated throughout the production process and notify you if there are any changes to the timeline and if I’m able to get your items to you sooner!

How will shipping, customs and delivery work?

Address confirmation: After the campaign ends, you’ll receive a BackerKit survey (not through Kickstarter) where you can confirm your shipping address and complete any add-ons. You’ll be able to update your address until the official address lock date, which will be announced in Kickstarter Project Updates (and by email where applicable).

Customs-friendly shipping: My goal is to provide smooth, tracked, customs-friendly delivery for backers in the US, UK, Europe, Canada and Au/Nz.

Orders for the US and UK will ship from within those countries. Orders for the Europe, Canada and Au/Nz are planned to ship DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) through our logistics partners, with the aim that no additional import fees will be due on delivery.

Uncut Sheet packages ship separately and will also not have additional import charges to the US, UK and countries where the declared value falls within the local duty-free import threshold. For all other destinations, any import duties, taxes or customs charges are the responsibility of the recipient.

Many countries have duty-free import thresholds, so additional charges may not apply depending on your location and the value of your package.

Shipping regulations: International shipping regulations can change with little notice. Shipping prices for the supported regions have been calculated using current shipping rates, taxes and import requirements. However, if significant changes to tariffs, customs regulations or shipping policies occur before fulfilment that make these arrangements impossible or prohibitively expensive, they may need to be revised before shipping can be completed. I will do everything possible to find a solution and keep backers informed of any potential challenges.

Once your order has shipped: Once your parcel has been dispatched, delivery is handled by the shipping carrier. While I’ll always do my best to help if problems arise, I cannot be responsible for carrier delays, customs processing, or parcels lost after they have entered the postal network.

If a parcel is refused or returned because import charges are not paid, any reshipment will require a new shipping payment, provided the parcel is successfully returned to us. As international returns are not guaranteed to arrive back safely, refunds cannot be offered in these circumstances.

PO Box addresses: Please note that our fulfilment partners are unable to ship to PO Box addresses.

What is your refund policy?

Kickstarter processes payments at the end of the campaign and holds funds for a short period before releasing them. During this window, refunds may be offered within 10 days of the campaign ending, including platform and processing fees where applicable.

Once funds have been released by Kickstarter to the creator, they’re allocated toward covering any pre-production, mass manufacturing, materials sourcing, tooling, and fulfillment logistics needs. From this point onward, refunds are no longer available, as commitments to production numbers will already have been made.

Who is behind this project?

My name is Lee McKenzie, founder and designer of my independent playing card brand, Kings & Crooks. I am a passionate designer, fellow card collector and magic enthusiast with 20+ years of experience in playing card design. I designed the first few custom decks for Ellusionist in 2010 and went on to successfully launch many of my very own decks on Kickstarter, producing over 40,000 custom decks and accessories delivered to backers in over 70 countries. I love designing playing cards, it’s a dream come true. I put my heart and soul into everything I do and am dedicated to bringing these new decks to life.

I have a business, do you offer wholesale?

Please contact me directly via Kickstarter (or [email protected]) for retailer discounted wholesale prices. These prices will be based on post-Kickstarter rrp, not the Kickstarter prices. Proof of business will need to be verified. Once the backers of the project have received their decks and after they are officially released on KingsandCrooks.com, you will be the first resellers to offer them.

Things to know before backing any Kickstarter

By backing this project, you understand that this is a crowdfunded production with inherent manufacturing variables, including potential delays and minor variations in final output due to production processes.

If you do not agree with these terms, please do not pledge to this project.

I have always successfully delivered all previous projects to the high-quality standards originally set out, including through periods of unexpected production and shipping challenges. While I always do my utmost to ensure smooth production and fulfilment, unforeseen delays or external factors can occasionally occur.

Who is manufacturing them?

As with many of the decks in my last collection, Cavaliers, I loved the quality and finish from WJPC and their slightly Thinner Crushed stock with Butter Varnish Cardistry Finish and not to mention their incredible tuckbox finishing with foils and emboss, so they will be manufacturing the Royales RIVIERAS Collection too. Also, as the print quantities of each deck will be fairly limited too, they also do not require a huge order run to produce at the best quality, so it works very well in our favour.

Are these different to the original Royales playing cards released in 2021?

Yes, they are not simply a colour change, but that is a huge element of the new Riviera collection and their story. For both the Classic and Players Limited Edition, the tuckbox has new Riviera branding. The ace of spades new a new design too. The faces of every card has new colored border design elements. The vintage showgirl Joker is now set on the shore and coastline of the French Riviera, complete with luxury yacht in the background and a far reaching horizon. The back design artwork remains from the original Royales, which was intentional as the response from them over the years has been so positive, keeping that design alive is what helps introduce the Rivieras as a vibrant, vintage summer-inspired chapter in the Royales story.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
